These honey soy chicken wings pair wonderfully with a side of steamed jasmine rice or a fresh green salad to balance out the richness of the sauce. For a more substantial meal, consider serving them alongside some roasted vegetables or a simple coleslaw. If you're hosting a party, they make a great addition to a platter with other finger foods like spring rolls or dumplings.
2 pounds chicken wings
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease it with cooking spray or a little oil.
In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, olive oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
Add the chicken wings to the bowl and toss them in the marinade until they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator if you have the time.
Arrange the marinated wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the wings are golden brown and cooked through.
If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the wings during the last 5 minutes of baking.
Once done, remove the wings from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
For a different flavor profile, try adding a tablespoon of hoisin sauce to the marinade for extra depth. If you prefer a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of sriracha. For a more citrusy note, squeeze some fresh lime juice over the wings just before serving. You can also grill the wings instead of baking them for a smoky flavor.
